Coffee Mastery Tips
Essential knowledge for the perfect cup.
Grinding
Grind size matters. Finer for espresso, medium for pour-over, coarse for cold brew. Always grind just before brewing for maximum freshness.
Storing
Keep beans in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Use within 2-3 weeks of roasting for peak flavor.
Water Quality
Coffee is 98% water, so use clean, filtered water and balanced minerals for a smoother brew. Avoid or overly hard water to keep flavors clear.
Temperature
Ideal brewing temperature is 90-96°C. Too hot extracts bitter compounds, too cool results in under-extraction.
Tasting
Take your time to savor. Notice the aroma, acidity, body, and finish. Explore different origins to discover your preferences.
Brew Ratio
Start with 1:16 coffee to water ratio (15g coffee per 240ml water). Adjust to taste—more coffee for stronger, less for lighter.

Well worth the trip from Birmingham because we loved this place! The owners are so lovely and attentive, they made our experience such a wonderful one. The place was bustling and it was not surprising - fabulous coffee, tasty sandwiches (the Tandoori Chicken was banging), and so many pastries and treats to choose from. Had to stop myself from getting more than two 🤪 They support local traders, and they also have GF and vegan options. Will definitely be visiting again! It’s dog friendly as well and there were so many cute pups (though hoping to catch Belle the real-life mascot in action next time 😍)

So glad to have this reopen again as a cafe. Came down today to sample the menu and wasn't disappointed. Loved how accommodating they were, treats and drinks for the dog, colouring for the kids. And the food was scrumptious. Can't wait for them to expand the menu.
It’s such a treat having Squirrels right on our doorstep. The coffee is excellent, the food is delicious, and the service is consistently wonderful. It’s also both dog and child friendly, which means the whole family can enjoy this welcoming local spot together.
Came here today with my friend and children and it was brilliant the staff were very friendly as soon as we walked in until the minute we left, the food was incredible also. I highly recommend the club sandwich 🙂 will most definitely be coming again thank you!
