Hi there! We're Squirrels Cafe, run by Tom & Sadie
Our story began back in 2014, when we first met while working for a coffee company at the NEC. By 2015, we’d fallen in love — with each other and with the world of hospitality. For a while, we stepped away in search of a better work-life balance, but something always felt missing.
In 2019, one spontaneous lunchtime phone call changed everything. By the next morning, we’d both handed in our notices — ready to return to hospitality, but this time on our own terms. That’s how That’s Mature was born.
We enjoyed 7½ amazing months before the world came to a halt with COVID. Like many, we adapted — returning to full-time jobs while keeping That’s Mature alive on the side. By 2023, after years of long days and late nights, we knew it was time to pour our hearts fully back into what we love most. That’s when That’s Nugs joined the family — adding a fun new flavour to our story.
Then, by sheer luck (and maybe a little fate), we came across what was once Love a Latte. From the moment we first saw it, we could picture our vision here. Nearly a year later, the opportunity finally came our way — and Squirrels Café was born.
At Squirrels, we’re passionate about amazing food, exceptional coffee, and genuine, friendly service. This isn’t just a café to us — it’s a dream brought to life, a place to connect with our community, and a celebration of everything we love about hospitality.

Well worth the trip from Birmingham because we loved this place! The owners are so lovely and attentive, they made our experience such a wonderful one. The place was bustling and it was not surprising - fabulous coffee, tasty sandwiches (the Tandoori Chicken was banging), and so many pastries and treats to choose from. Had to stop myself from getting more than two 🤪 They support local traders, and they also have GF and vegan options. Will definitely be visiting again! It’s dog friendly as well and there were so many cute pups (though hoping to catch Belle the real-life mascot in action next time 😍)

So glad to have this reopen again as a cafe. Came down today to sample the menu and wasn't disappointed. Loved how accommodating they were, treats and drinks for the dog, colouring for the kids. And the food was scrumptious. Can't wait for them to expand the menu.
It’s such a treat having Squirrels right on our doorstep. The coffee is excellent, the food is delicious, and the service is consistently wonderful. It’s also both dog and child friendly, which means the whole family can enjoy this welcoming local spot together.
Came here today with my friend and children and it was brilliant the staff were very friendly as soon as we walked in until the minute we left, the food was incredible also. I highly recommend the club sandwich 🙂 will most definitely be coming again thank you!
